Density of states of Composite Fermions in a random magnetic field — •Riccardo Mazzarello, Stefan Kettemann, Eros Mariani, and Bernhard Kramer — I.Institut fuer Theoretische Physik, Universitaet Hamburg, 20355 Hamburg, Germany
In the Composite Fermion (CF) theory of the Quantum Hall Effect, electrons are transformed into particles with statistical flux attached to them. CFs experience a fictitious, statistical magnetic field proportional to their density in addition to the external one. The presence of a random potential induces fluctuations in the CFs density which give rise to a static Random Magnetic Field (RMF). We study the density of states of CFs subject to a RMF with non-zero, large mean Bm. A simple explanation of the dependence of the width of Landau bands on the mean Bm is provided. Our results are in agreement with the semiclassical results of E. Altshuler et al.[1].
