AgInSbTe alloys have recently emerged as an interesting material for re-writable phase change recording. Depending on the composition and the annealing process, the AgInSbTe alloy decomposes to AgSbTe2 and AgInTe2. These are two alloys which have simple and yet different structures. Here we report on experiments where Ag is replaced by Au. AuSbTe2 and AuInTe2 alloys have been prepared by combinatorial material synthesis and investigated for structural, optical and crystallization properties. Theoretical studies using DFT calculations are employed to determine the density of states, band structure and the total energy of the AuSbTe2 and AuInTe2 structures.
