Nanocrystallisation in amorphous Al-based alloys — •Heiko Nitsche, Ferdinand Sommer, and Eric Jan Mittemeijer — Max-Planck-Institut fuer Metallforschung, Heisenbergstrasse 3, D-70569 Stuttgart
In amorphous Al-based alloys primary Al(fcc) nano-particles with mean-diameter of 10 nm and particle densities of 1021 m−3 can be generated due to suitable heat treatment.
These alloys show, compared to conventional Al-based crystalline alloys, favorite mechanical properties.
This work gives an overview of the crystallisation behavoiur of amorphous Al-Y-(Ni,Co) alloys. The crystallisation behaviour depends on composition, production technique and production parameters.
In these amorphous alloys it was possible to separate partly nucleation and growth processes of Al(fcc) particles due to suitable heat treatment. These results are described with nucleation and growth models.
