Investigations of the motion of a grain boundary system with triple junction in tricrystals will be presented. The measurements were carried out in the temperature range between 400 and 560∘C on specially prepared tricrystals of high purity Al doped with 10 ppm Mg. The investigated triple junction connected two asymmetrical 40∘<111> tilt grain boundaries and one symmetrical 80∘<111> boundary. Both an X-ray diffraction technique and in situ imaging in a SEM were utilized for the measurements. For each temperature the velocity and the contact angle at the tip of triple junction were recorded. The results will be discussed with regard to of the effect of triple junction mobility on the motion of a connected grain boundary system.
