Electron energy loss spectroscopy with a polarised incident electron beam (SPEELS) is capable to measure high energy and high wavevector spin waves. First experimental results supported by theoretical calculations indeed showed a structure in the low energy regime of the asymmetry spectra that can be assigned to spin wave excitations [1]. In this contribution we present new SPEELS measurements on the system 5 ML Fe/W(110), which have been taken with an improved SPEEL-spectrometer with high energy resolution (up to 10meV). We show that the spin wave peak is intrinsically broad in energy extending up to about 400 meV. Compared to the large spin wave dispersion measured in bulk Fe by neutron scattering, the dispersion of this feature is surprisingly small. Possible reasons for this behaviour will be discussed. We also present first SPEEL-spectra of the Co/Cu(100) system.
