SRAPS on NiMnSb Heusler alloy: experiment and theory — •Hristo Kolev, Georgi Rangelov, Jürgen Braun, and Markus Donath — Physikalisches Institut, Universität Münster, Wilhelm-Klemm Str. 10, 48149 Münster, Germany
Due to the theoretically predicted 100% spin polarisation at the Fermi level the half-metallic ferromagnetic Heusler alloy NiMnSb is a promising candidate for future spintronic devices. Therefore, we studied a well defined NiMnSb single crystal with a (100) surface by means of Spin-Resolved Appearance Potential Spectroscopy (SRAPS). The experimental results allow the determination of the spin- and element-resolved unoccupied local density of states. Using a fully relativistic framework, the theoretical SRAP spectra have been obtained as the self convolution of the matrix-element-weighted, orbitally-resolved unoccupied density of states. The comparison between the experimental and theoretical SRAP spectra provides a better understanding of the electronic and magnetic surface properties of this alloy.
