Mn doped ZnO: A magnetic semiconductor? — •Karl Nielsen, Daniel Reisinger, Mitja Schonecke, Andreas Erb, Lambert Alff, and Rudolf Gross — Walther-Meißner-Institut, Bayerische Akademie der
Diluted magnetic semiconductors (DMS) are presently under intensive investigation for their use in spintronic devices. It has not yet been clarified whether the observed magnetism in compounds as GaAs(Mn) are due to charge carrier mediated correlations between the magnetic ions or due to clustering. We are growing ZnO(Mn) thin films by pulsed laser deposition in order to investigate the magnetic behavior of this diluted II-VI semiconductor which is predicted to have a Curie temperature close to room-temperature. As a first step, we have investigated homoepitaxial growth of ZnO thin films on ZnO substrates with different Mn concentrations (0%-5%) monitored by in-situ RHEED.
