We investigate Heusler alloys (Co2Cr1−xFexAl) and double perovskites (Sr2FeMoO6) with respect to their applicability in magnetoresistive sensors. Both materials are half-metals according to band structure calculations, i.e. they show only one spin direction for the charge carriers at the Fermi edge, and show strong magnetoresistive effects. The suppression of Andreev reflections in superconducting point contact spectroscopy has been proposed as a method to determine the degree of spin polarisation. We applied this method to our materials and discuss the validity of the extracted spin polarisation values in disordered metals.
