The helical antiferromagnetic structure of monocrystalline thin Ho metal films was studied by magnetic resonant soft x-ray and neutron scattering, revealing a thickness dependence of the ordering temperature TN according to [TN (∞)−TN(d)]/TN (d)∝ (d−d0)−λ′ with a finite thickness d0 of the order of the bulk helix period. This behavior is explained within a mean field model, revealing a linear dependence of d0 on the period length of the magnetic superstructure in the bulk material.
