The strain effects on the physical properties of La0.9Sr0.1MnO3 ultra-thin films — •Hui Zhang, Georg Cristiani, and Hanns-Ulrich Habermeier — Heisenbergstr.1, 70569 Stuttgart

In this paper, we studied systematically c oriented La0.9Sr0.1MnO3 thin films under both tensile and compressive strains. The structural, transport and magnetic properties were investigated in detail. The results clearly show that with increasing c parameter, a-b plane was compressed simultaneously, and antiferro- magnetism with enhanced resistivity was established; in contrary, decreasing c-parameter caused ferromagnetism and metallicity. We attribute these abnormal behaviors to the competitions between double-exchange, orbital ordering and superexchange as well.
