Spin waves in diluted magnetic semiconductor quantum wells — •Diego Frustaglia1, Jürgen König1, and Allan H. MacDonald2 — 1Institut für Theoretische Festkörperphysik, Universität Karlsruhe, 76135 Karlsruhe — 2Department of Physics, The University of Texas at Austin, TX 78712 Austin, USA
We present a study of spin excitations in diluted magnetic
semiconductor quantum wells. This is based on a recent theory
for bulk systems [1] applied to the case where the carriers are
confined along one particular direction. We find multiple
branches of collective spin excitations (absent in bulk systems)
as a consequence of the dynamic correlations induced by the
coupling of the itinerant carrier spins to the magnetic
impurities. We discuss properties of such spin excitations for
various configurations regarding the (anti)ferromagnetic nature
of the coupling and the partial/total spin-polarization of the
carriers.
