Exchange Bias in [Co₂MnGe/Au]_n, [Co₂MnGe/Cr]_n and [Co₂MnGe/Cu₂MnAl]_n multilayers — •Kurt Westerholt, Uwe Geiersbach, and Andre Bergmann — Institut für Experimentalphysik IV Ruhr Universität Bochum, 44780 Bochum Germany

We have prepared multilayers of the half metallic Heusler compound Co₂MnGe with interlayers of Au, Cr, V and Cu₂MnAl. Whereas in [Co₂MnGe/V]_n multilayers we find evidence for an antiferromagnetic interlayer exchange coupling, the multilayers with Au, Cr and Cu₂MnAl exhibit no af-coupling, but a shifted hysteresis loop characteristic for an exchange bias phenomenon. We characterize this exchange bias phenomenon in detail and show that it originates from a spin glass type of magnetic order for a thin interlayer at the interfaces.
