Surface XPCS experiments allow to determine the dynamical properties of liquid surfaces. Surfaces of liquids are covered by capillary waves, leading to an intrinsic rms roughness of a few Angstroem. Basic hydrodynamics leads to two different kinds of surface waves: propagating waves for low viscosity and overdamped modes for high viscosity liquids. Mixtures of water and glycerol allow to tune the value of the viscosity and therefore to study the transition between these two different modes. We present recent XPCS data taken at the ID10 B beamline at ESRF, Grenoble.
