Oscillations in a semiconductor - gas discharge systems with high-ohmic electrodes. — •E. L. Gurevich — Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster, Institut für Angewandte Physik, Corrensstr. 2/4, 48149 Münster
A semiconductor - gas discharge system performs various nonlinear phenomena such as filamentation of the gas discharge, appearance of clusters of filaments, stripes, spirals and so on. Homogeneous oscillations of the dc-gas discharge were recently found (see C. Strümpel, Yu. A. Astrov, and H.-G. Purwins, Phys. Rev. E 62 (2000)), but no explanation of the phenomenon was proposed. Here I want to present experimental study of the homogeneous oscillations of Townsend gas discharge and suggest a model describing this phenomenon. Charge density on the surface of a high-ohmic cathode and its influence on the current amplification in the gas discharge were taken into account. Analytical model shows good agreement with the experimental results.
