Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Metastable Impact Electron Spectroscopy (MIES) were applied to investigate the surface electronic structure and topography of heated SrTiO3 (110) surfaces. The crystals were heated up to 1000 C under reducing conditions (in ultrahigh vacuum) as well as oxidizing conditions (in synthetic air) for 1 h, respectively. In both cases microfaceting of the surface is observed. The SrTiO3 (110) surface shows a reconstruction to TiO2-terminated ridges. In the MIES spectra the restructuring could be seen in the occurrence of a pronounced feature near the Fermi level caused by reduced Ti species in the Ti3+ and/or Ti2+ charge state. Under reducing conditions the higher amount of oxygen vacancies disturbs the perfect reconstruction.
