Dynamics of electronic collisions in random alloys — •Konstantin Kouzakov and Jamal Berakdar — Max-Planck-Institut, Weinberg 2, 06120 Halle
A theory is developed for the description of electron-electron scattering events in binary alloys with substitutional disorder. As an experimental realization we suggest the use of electron-electron coincidence technique where an incoming hot electron scatters from a conduction band electron and both excited electrons are detected and their wave vectors are resolved. We show that under certain conditions specified by the present theory the target’s electronic properties can be disentangled from the correlated two-particle scattering and a measurement of the electron-electron scattering probability can be utilized for mapping of the electronic structure of the alloys. For a numerical realization we employ the Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker coherent potential approximation for the ground state electrons and the virtual crystal approximation for the description the high-energy scattering states of the electrons. Numerical results are presented and analyzed for the energy and angular dependence of the two-electron scattering events in a copper-nickel alloy surface.
