The generation of subsurface oxygen state on Rh(110) surface — •Bolormaa Sanduijav and Manfred Neumann — Fachbereich Physik, Universitaet Osnabrueck, 49067 Osnabrueck
There exist contradictory opinions about subsurface states. Therefore it is important to give a clear description of the subsurface state and its generation. This has been done for oxygen on a Rh(110) surface using thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS) as a main tool besides other spectroscopies. It will be shown, that carbon impurities in the bulk block the generation of subsurface oxygen although it has no significant influence on known adsorbed oxygen states. The existence of oxygen in the subsurface region can be identified by its high temperature desorption. In contrast to adsorbed oxygen the subsurface oxygen does not react with hydrogen .
