A technique for precise resistivity measurement under hydrostatic pressure above 4 GPa in magnetic fields at low temperatures — •Takeshi Nakanishi — Kompetenzgruppe Hohe Drücke, Max-Planck-Institut für Chemische Physik fester Stoffe, Nöthnitzer Str. 40, D-01187 Dresden
We report a newly developed high-pressure cell [1] designed to measure the absolute value of the electrical resistivity in magnetic fields at low temperatures under hydrostatic pressure above 4 GPa - the upper limit of usual piston-cylinder devices. This pressure cell, based on a technique using modified Bridgman anvils with a Teflon capsule, can generate nearly hydrostatic pressure at least up to P ≃ 6 GPa. The most important feature of this pressure cell is its compact body that can be easily combined with a dilution refrigerator in a superconducting magnet. The performance of this pressure cell was first demonstrated by high precision measurements of the magneto-transport properties of a single crystal of the spin-ladder compound Sr14−xCaxCu24O41 (x = 12), which becomes a superconductor with Tc ≃ 5 K at P > 3 GPa. The investigations have been extended up to P ≃ 5.7 GPa, magnetic field B ≃ 20 T and down to a minimum temperature of T ≃ 100 mK.
