Wetting of polymer-solvent mixtures — •Yu-cheng Lin, Marcus Müller, and Kurt Binder — Institut für Physik, WA 331, Johannes Gutenberg Universität, D55099 Mainz
We investigate the interfacial properties of polymer-solvent mixture with bulk phase behavior of type III in the classification of Konynenburg and Scott by Monte Carlo simulations. The polymer-solvent mixture is described by a coarse-grained off lattice model in which a polymer is represented by a chain of five Lennard-Jones (LJ) monomers with a bond interaction via a FENE potential and the solvent by single LJ particles. We apply a modified Lorentz-Berthelot mixing rule to control the interaction parameters. The study focuses on the density profiles between coexisting phases near the triple point and the surface structure of the mixture at a wall. The attractive monomer-wall interactions are taken to be long-ranged. The effect of solvent enrichment at interfaces and surfaces and its relation to wetting transition shall be discussed.
