Anomalous charge dynamics of low-dimensional strongly correlated electron systems has attracted much attention in physics of transition-metal oxides and organic conductors. Recently, the CuO double chains of PrBa2Cu4O8 were found to provide an opportunity for studying the properties of charge dynamics such as charge ordering and charge fluctuations. We investigate the ground state and some excited states of a 1/4-filled CuO double chains numerically using the density-matrix renormalization group method. We show that the geometrical flustration can indeed induce a metal-insulator (MI) phase transition, and we present the ground-state phase diagram. Moreover, we discuss possible emergence of heavy-fermion-like behaviors near the MI transition as well as their doping dependence.
