Plasmon-assisted tunneling in Luttinger quantum dots — •M. Thorwart, M. Grifoni, H.W.Ch. Postma, and C. Dekker — Department of NanoScience, Technische Universiteit Delft, The Netherlands

We investigate correlated charge transport in a one-dimensional interacting quantum dot at low temperatures and take into account the finite range of the screened Coulomb interaction. For linear transport, we identify a regime of low temperature and strong repulsive interaction, where correlated sequential tunneling determines the temperature dependence of the conductance maximum [1]. Additional interesting consequences are discussed in this talk. Correlated sequential tunneling generates side peaks associated to the main Coulomb peak due to plasmon-assisted tunneling, in close analogy to photon-assisted tunneling. The side peaks allow the observation of spin-charge separation, probably the most exceptional feature of a Luttinger liquid. Our theoretical predictions are discussed in the context of experimental results [2] obtained from intramolecular quantum dots designed in metallic single-walled carbon nanotubes.
