Single crystal growth of CeCu2Si2:Correlation between growth parameter and physical properties — •H. S. Jeevan, M. Deppe, R. Borth, C. Geibel, and F. Steglich — Max-Planck-Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids, Nöthnitzer Str. 40, 01187 Dresden, Germany
CeCu2Si2 presents a complex interplay between heavy fermion superconductivity and magnetism, which is presently very far from being understood. A study of its magnetic structure and magnetic excitations with neutron scattering is prevented by the lack of large single crystals with well defined physical properties. The major problem is the peritectic formation of CeCu2Si2, and the extreme sensitivity of its physical properties to tiny changes in the composition. We have grown large single crystals of CeCu2Si2 using a self flux method in oxide crucibles. The structure of the single crystals, their composition and their physical properties were investigated by XR-diffraction, microprobe and resistivity as well as specific heat measurements, respectively. We observed correlation’s between growth parameters, composition of the single crystals, and their physical properties. A preliminary analysis of these correlation’s suggest that with this growth method, a control of the properties of the single crystal can be achieved.
