Ce2RhIn8 belongs to the CenMmIn3n+2m family of materials, where M is a transition metal (Co, Rh or Ir). It crystallizes in the tetragonal Ho2CoGa8 structure and can be described as a layered structure along c-axis, consisting in alternating bi-layers of CeIn3 separated by a layer of RhIn2 [1]. All three members of the CenRhIn3n+2 family (CeIn3 (n=∞), Ce2RhIn8 (n=2), CeRhIn5 (n=1)) are heavy-fermion antiferromagnets at ambient pressure and become superconductors at higher pressures. Ce2RhIn8 has a Néel temperature of TN = 3 K at ambient pressure. At p = 1.1 GPa it shows a superconducting transition at Tc = 0.38 K which then shifts to higher temperatures at even higher pressures [2]. Here we present heat capacity measurements under hydrostatic pressure (p ≤ 1.6 GPa) of Ce2RhIn8 and discuss the results in light of current theories on Quantum Critical Point phenomena and purely electronic coupling mechanisms.
