Using angle-resolved photoemission (ARPES) in the traditional way the Fermi surface and the bilayer splitting in the high-Tc superconductor Pb-Bi2212 could be determined as a function of dopont concentration. In this way intra- and interplane hopping parameters which determine the independent particle bandstructure, could be determined. On the other hand, modern high-resolution ARPES is able to provide additional information on the many-body properties of the electronic structure of high-Tc superconductors. In particular, this method yields the renormalized effective mass and the scattering rates of the charge carriers. Both quantities which determine the complex self-energy function and thus the deviation from an independent particle model have been found to be strongly dependent on the hole concentration, the temperature, and the localization on the Fermi surface. The results indicate in the superconducting state a very strong coupling of the charge carriers to a bosonic mode having an energy of about 40 meV and a wave vector (π, π). The result is discussed in terms of a coupling to phonons, spin fluctuations or electronic degrees of freedom, which may be also important for the understanding of mechanism of high-Tc superconductivity.
