EDELWEISS Experiment, a Bolometric Approach to the Search of Dark Matter — •Maurice Chapellier — SPEC CE Saclay 91191 GIF/YVETTE CEDEX FRANCE
There are consistent indications that our universe is nearly critical and that 30% is non-luminous and composed of non-baryonic particles (Weakly Interacting Massive Particles). A favorite hypothesis is that this Dark Matter is made of a Supersymmetric Particle, the Neutralino, a relic particle produced during the Big Bang. The detection of these relic particles is a real challenge. We will explain how a mixed ionisation heat bolometer running at low temperature in an underground laboratory (Laboratoire Souterrain de Modane) with a peculiar effort to reduce the surrounding radioactivity offer a promising path to try to solve this long standing problem. The status of the EDELWEISS experiment will be presented as well as its near and long term future.
