Metal Organic Decomposition (MOD) for the preparation of epitaxial buffer layers for high temperature superconducting tapes — •Harald Jarzina1, S. Sievers1, H. C. Freyhardt1, P. Lobinger2, and H. W. In order to obtain a high current carrying capability in thin layers of the high temperature superconductor YBa2Cu3O7−d (YBCO), highly biaxially oriented growth has to be achieved. This is achieved by epitaxial nucleation and growth on a textured substrate. The processing of textured substrates (for example by Ion-Beam-Assisted-Deposition of ZrO2:Y2O3-layers (YSZ)) requires elaborate technical equipment and is therefore cost intensive. It might be advantageous to deposit a thin nucleation layer (some ten nanometers in thickness) by IBAD, and subsequently to increase thickness and improve texture by MOD.

In this contribution the dependence of growth parameters of YSZ and CeO2:Gd2O3 on the substrate properties (YSZ single crystals of various roughnesses, IBAD-YSZ of different in-plane texture, RABiTS) is investigated. A special focus will be on the superconducting properties of YBCO layers deposited on top of the buffer layers.
