Superconductivity above 120 K in high-quality mercury cuprate HTS thin films — •Abouelwafa Salem, Gerhard Jakob, and Hermann Adrian — Institut f/"ur Physik Mainz Universit/"at Staudinger-weg 7 D-55099 Mainz Germany
The synthesis of high-quality Hg-based cuprate films is posing one of the difficult challenges so far in the synthesis of high Tc superconducting thin films. The major difficulty stems from the high volatility of Hg and HgO. Our study demonstrated that maintaining the phase equilibrium during the Hg-vapor annealing is key toward high-quality films. Superconducting high-quality mercury cuprate HTS thin films above 120 K have been fabricated by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) of precursor material on (100)-oriented SrTiO3 substrates with subsequent Hg vapour annealing. The M-H loop was measured at different temperatures with a magnetic field applied normal to the film plane in a SQUID magnetometer . Using the Bean model, the critical current density Jc was obtained at different temperatures from the remanent magnetization as a function of the magnetic field.
