We built a setup to perform noise measurements on thin films at variable temperature. It is equipped with a ultra-sensitive low Tc SQUID preamplifier which provides a typical resolution of 50 pV/SQRT(Hz). The heating is provided by a 1.5 W infrared laser diode which allows us to adjust the sample temperature with a resolution of about 1 mK in the range of 4.2 K to 100 K. A superconducting magnet allows to establish a field up to 5T. A second SQUID can be inductively coupled to the sample in order to measure magnetic noise. Our primary interest is to investigate the pinning mechanisms of vortices, e.g. by magnetic dots and antidot arrays in superconducting thin films.
