Sol-Gel Nd2CuO4 and La2Zr2O7 buffer layers by dip coating for YBCO coated conductors — •Kerstin Demmler, Martina Falter, Brigitte Schlobach, Wolfgang Häßler, Bernhard Holzapfel, and Ludwig Schultz — Leibniz-Institut für Festkörper- und Werkstoffforschung (IFW) Dresden, Helmholtzstraße 20, 01069 Dresden

Nd2CuO4 (NCO)and La2Zr2O7 (LZO) thin layers were grown on (100) strontium titanate (STO) substrates and on Ni RABiTS (rolling assisted biaxially textured substrates) using a solution deposition process. The precursor solutions based on sol-gel technique were prepared starting from (M)-2,4-pentanedionates (M = Nd, Cu, La, Zr). Methanol was used as a solvent. Thin films were obtained by dip coating of Ni and STO substrates into the precursor solution. After a heat treatment at 1135C for 1h NCO and LZO films were formed, respectively. (00l) oriented NCO films on STO showed a good in-plane alignment. The FWHM value was 0.78. These films were only obtained under pure oxygen and are therefore not suitable as buffer layers on Ni tapes, because of the instantaneous formation of NiO. (l00) LZO was formed on Ni substrates under 5%H2-Ar gas. The omega and phi scans indicated good out-of-plane and in-plane orientations. The FWHM values of omega and phi scans of LZO films were 3.97 (Ni: 3.97) and 5.19 (Ni: 4.96), respectively. The microstructure was dense and free from cracks. These results and initial deposition tests of CSD YBCO films on single LZO films indicate that LZO could be a suitable first buffer layer on Ni tapes for preparation of YBCO coated conductors.
