Annular intrinsic Josephson junction stacks offer the possibility to study
fluxon dynamics even in the absence of external magnetic fields as fluxons
cannot escape from the junctions.
We have fabricated annular stacks of intrinsic Josephson junctions out of
Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 single crystals using a double side
preparation technique. In addition to measurements in external magnetic
fields and under irradiation of microwaves, we have investigated the
samples using low temperature scanning electron microscopy (LTSEM).
All measurements show clear structures on the current voltage
characteristics due to fluxon motion. Especially, while irradiating the
sample with microwaves, a strong spatially dependent signal is visible by
LTSEM. The experimental results are discussed and compared with numerical
simulations.
