We investigated the dynamics and collective states of Josephson fluxons in stacked intrinsic Josephson junctions in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 single crystals with a stack height between 15 and 60 nm. For the experiments mesa structures of various geometries have been prepared using electron beam and photo lithography and a special double side technique to pattern the crystal. The lengths of the mesas ranged between 3 and 10 µ m.
The current voltage characteristics show distinct steps that can be assigned to dynamic fluxon lattices. We discuss the influence of various control parameters on the fluxon states. We also compare our experimental results with numerical simulations based on the coupled one-dimensional sine Gordon equations.
