Optical Pumping Effects Observed for Pr+ in a Paul Trap — •Ewa Stachowska, Adam Buczek, Boguslaw Furmann, Danuta Stefanska, Gustaw Szawiola, Wojciech Koczorowski, and Adrian Walaszyk — Chair of Atomic Physics Poznan University of Technology

Spectroscopic investigations of praseodymium ions stored in a Paul trap allowed some effects to be observed, which have not been analysed with this method yet. The complex and dense spectrum of praseodymium ion and the hyperfine structure which causes spreading of spectral lines yield cases of partial overlapping of two different lines. In such cases it is possible to simultaneously excite two different optical transitions with the same laser at frequency range where their structures overlap. The optical pumping process observed in this spectral region can be used in investigation and manipulation of metastable levels population of Pr+ in a Paul trap.
