For radiative electron capture (REC) occurring in collisions of high-Z ions and light target atoms, a very first photon polarization study has recently been performed at the storage ring ESR. For this purpose a 4x4 Germanium pixel detector array has been used. The photon polarization of the REC transition was derived by exploiting the polarization sensitivity of the Compton process, i.e. via measuring the Compton scattering probability with respect to the scattering plane. First preliminary results will be presented which already indicate a strong polarization of the REC photons.
