Multiple Ionization in Strong Laser Field — •Karl Zrost, Vitor L. Bastos de Jesus, Robert Moshammer, Bernold Feuerstein, and Joachim Ullrich — Max Plank Institut fuer Kernphysik, Heidelberg
Multiple ionization of He, Ne and Ar in ultra-short (25 fs) intense 800nm laser pulses has been investigated using a ‘Reaction-Microscope’. High-resolution recoil-ion and electron momentum distributions have been recorded over a large range of light intensities from below 1014 W/cm2 up to several 1015 W/cm2. The results are discussed in terms of ionization mechanisms with emphasis on target specific features and on the transition from non-sequential to sequential double ionization as the laser intensity increases.
