Accurate calculations of atomic properties and level structures — •S. Fritzsche1, G. Gaigalas2, and B. Fricke11Universität Kassel, D–34132 Kassel, Germany — 2Vilnius University Research Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astronomy, Vilnius, Lithuania

The need for accurate atomic parameters has grown steadily over the last two decades. Today, reliable predictions about the structure and dynamics of free atoms are required not only in astro physics and fusion research (the traditional areas for applying atomic structure theory) but also in a variety of other, recently emerging fields such as uv– and x–ray lithography, the optimization of ion sources, the generation of nanostructures, or even in the search for more efficient x–ray laser schemes.

Here, we review the current capabilities and recent developments of the Ratip package [1] which has been found useful in the past for studying the level structures, transition probabilities, and Auger properties of atoms and ions with (rather) arbitrary shell structures. Recent extensions to this package concerned, for instance, the radiative and dielectronic capture into multiple charged ions as well as electron–impact and photoionization processes. — During the last two years, the application of this package helped to understand a large variety of experiments and case studies.
