Recently substantial progress has been achieved for heavy-ion stopping powers by both theoretical and experimental work. In this contribution we will give a status on the present accuracy of heavy-ion stopping powers in a large energy range from MeV/u to the GeV/u, i.e., experimental data obtained at GSI with bare and partially ionized projectiles are compared with different theories and semiempirical tables. The role of charge-changing collisions are very important over a wide energy region.
