In a recent experiment strong field control of the intensity and interference of the Autler-Townes (AT) components in the photoelectron spectrum of K atoms was demonstrated employing a sequence of two intense ultrashort laser pulses. In this contribution we investigate how and to which extend the AT components can be controlled by a single phase modulated intense ultrashort laser pulse. Laser pulses which optimize the high (low) energy AT components are analyzed to allow an analysis of the underlying dynamics in terms of a two level model. This system may serve as a prototype for a detailed understanding of strong field control dynamics in atomic and molecular systems.
