Single electron capture by HCI using COLTRIMS — •Dr. CHRISTINA DIMOPOULOU — Max-Planck-Institut fuer Kernphysik, Saupfercheckweg 1, 69117 Heidelberg

The combination of the Heidelberg Electron Beam Ion Trap (EBIT) with the Cold Target Recoil Ion Momentum Spectroscopy (COLTRIMS) technique is a unique tool to investigate the interaction dynamics between highly-charged ions and atomic or molecular targets. Single electron capture by highly-charged ions (HCI) in collisions with a He target has been studied. In this case, for a given projectile velocity and small scattering angles, the momentum component of the recoil ion along the projectile direction depends only on the difference in the binding energy of the active electron between the final and the initial state. Spectroscopic information of energy levels of HCI has been obtained in this way. Recent experimental results are presented and compared with theoretical calculations.
