Topological twists in quantum black holes — •Jorma Louko — School of Mathematical Sciences, University of Nottingham, Nottingham NG7 2RD, United Kingdom

An astrophysical black hole created by a collapsing star has an event horizon with topology S2 and contains no white hole region. By contrast, black-and-white hole solutions to Einstein’s equations and their generalisations may have horizon topology different from S2, and an exterior region may also have inequivalent maximal analytic extensions. I discuss how these topological issues affect the thermodynamics of eternal black holes. The topological freedom can in particular be used to probe M-theoretic duality conjectures.
