The dynamics of photoinduced electron transfer from the excited singlet state of perylene chromophores into the conduction band of nano-structured TiO2 layers has been measured by fs transient absorption in ultra-high vacuum conditions. As the transfer rate strongly depends on the electronic coupling, different anchor and spacer groups have been inserted between chromophore and surface. Probing the molecular product state of the charge injection, i.e. the rise of perylene+ absorption, gave time constants ranging from sub 15 fs for short bonded chromophores to hundreds of fs for perylene attached via a rigid spacer.
