We present results of a crossed electron/molecule beams study concerning positive and negative ion formation of CHF2Cl. In the case of cations the ionization energy of the parent ion is higher than the ionization energy of the most abundant positive fragment ion, the CHF2+ ion. Using the same instrument (trochoidal electron monochromator and quadrupole MS) dissociative electron attachment (DEA) was studied in the electron energy range from about 0 to 10 eV at a gas temperature of 300 K. For four fragment anions (Cl−, F−, CClF− and CF2−) that were observed partial absolute cross sections for DEA to CHF2Cl were obtained. From these cross section functions the total rate coefficient at room temperature was derived.
