Conventionally, fluorescence spectroscopy in the femtosecond regime relies on the up-conversion technique. In the recent years the optical Kerr shutter has gained importance in the field. Here, a novel Kerr set-up with a high optical through-put and very low time zero dispersion (∼ 200 fs through out the visible spectrum) is presented. It comprises two Cassegranians to collect the fluorescence light and focus it onto a Kerr medium and two thin film polarisers to extinguish the fluorescence light. In combination with a spectrometer coupled to a CCD camera the set-up delivers spectrally resolved fluorescence decay profiles in very short aquisition times (∼ 5 min).
