Investigations on XUV recombination laser schemes in Li — •Michael Born, Lothar Koch, Carsten Reinhardt, Valeri Vorontsov, and Bernd Wellegehausen — Institut für Quantenoptik, Universität Hannover, Welfengarten 1, 30167 Hannover
With a short pulse titanium sapphire laser we ionize a lithium ablation
plasma
to Li3+ (hydrogen-like ion).
By recombination , population inversion between the 3d→2p
levels
in Li2+ may be obtained resulting in XUV radiation at 72.9 nm.
Investigations to optimize plasma parameters for maximum line intensity
will
be presented.
The lithium ablation plasma, which is generated by a ns Nd:YAG laser pulse,
contains lithium atoms, clusters and particles. Therefore different
ionization mechanisms contribute to the production of Li3+ ions and to
the plasma conditions.
