Very far detuned intra-cavity dipole trap — •Marc Eichhorn, Marcel Mudrich, and Matthias Weidemüller — MPI für Kernphysik, 69029 Heidelberg
We present a new quasi-electrostatic trap for cold atoms. The optical dipole potential is formed by the standing wave inside the resonator of a CO2 laser (λ = 10.6 µm). The field enhancement of the cavity provides a laser power of a few kW leading to trap depths in the milliKelvin range for alkali atoms. Due to the active medium inside the resonator the trap is intrinsically stable with respect to external perturbations.
