Resonant nonlinear optics assisted by electromagnetically induced transparency offers the opportunity to have both high nonlinearities and low absorption simultaneously, giving the chance to practically realise many interesting new effects. Using these techniques in an atomic double lamba system it is possible to obtain almost full conversion from two pump beams to two generated beams in a very short interaction length and with very weak pump fields (i.e. only a few photons). In our approach we treat all four electromagnetic fields fully quantum mechanically, calculating exact numerical and mean-field results for quantities such as mean photon number, Mandel Q parameters and the photon wavefunctions.
