AM-Transfer-Spectroscopy For Resolution Of Supercontinua — •Nils Haverkamp, Joern Stenger, and Harald R. Telle — Phys.-Tech. Bundesanstalt, Bundesallee 100, 38116 Braunschweig, Germany

Recently microstructure fibers were developed which allow the pulses of a mode locked laser to be spectrally broadened very efficiently. It was shown, that in the frequency domain the broadened spectrum is of comb structure, i.e. composed of phase-coherent equidistantly spaced lines. The origin of the observed phase-coherence remains yet to be resolved.

Supercontinuum generation is a complex interplay of self phase modulation, soliton formation and subsequent soliton splitting and Raman shifting, and cascaded four-wave-mixing. Possibly also non phase coherent processes play a role. We developed a setup allowing individual solitons in the supercontinuum behind a microstructure fiber to be identified via AM-transfer-spectroscopy. In addition we show, that the nonsolitonic radiation (NSR) exhibits comb structure even when pulse energies do not suffice to generate supercontinua.
