Input-Output relations for nonclassical light propagating through three-dimensional dispersing and absorbing multilayer dielectric plate — •Mikayel Khanbekyan, Ludwig Knöll, and Dirk-Gunnar Welsch — Theoretisch-Physikalisches Institut, Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena, Max-Wien-Platz 1, D-07743, Jena, Germany
We study the propagation of nonclassical light through a three-dimensional dispersing and absorbing multilayer dielectric plate. The medium is described by a stepwise, constant, complex permittivity, that satisfies the Kramers-Kronig relations. The operator input-output relations are independent of the mechanism of creation of fields, and, thus, can be applied to both free fields and source fields. Therefore, the theory incorporates both propagating waves and decaying (evanescent) waves. The field transformation coefficients are functions only of the dielectric permittivities and the thicknesses of the layers. The input-output relations derived can have applications in studying the influence of optical devices (such as beam splitters, photonic band-gap structures) on the quantum statistics of light in three dimensions.
