Excitonic semiconductor absorption in photonic crystals — •M. Reichelt, R. Eichmann, B. Pasenow, T. Meier, T. Stroucken, P. Thomas, and S.W. Koch — Department of Physics and Material Sciences Center, Philipps University, Renthof 5, D-35032 Marburg, Germany
Absorption spectra of a semiconductor quantum well near a two-dimensional photonic crystal are investigated numerically. It is shown that the periodic dielectric structuring changes the local optical and Coulomb interaction properties of semiconductor electron-hole excitations [1-3]. As a consequence, the exciton energy as well as the binding energy vary in space. With spectrally narrow laser pulses one can selectively excite excitons in certain regions. For longer times their coherent evolution is governd by wavepaket dynamics.
