The diurnal evolution of peroxy radical mixing ratios in the marine boundary layer (MBL) over the Atlantic and Indian Ocean have been analysed. The measurements were performed in 1996 and 1999 during ship cruises as a part of the ALBATROSS, AEROSOL, and INDOEX campaign. During the campaign air parcels of different origin and content of pollutants were measured. In the MBL maximum peroxy radical mixing ratios between 30 and 90 pptv were observed. The peroxy radical, ozone, and formaldehyd chemistry of the MBL have been simulated by using a box model. The possible influence of halogens in the chemistry of the MBL will be discussed.
