Electric potential and reaction rates at charged surfaces in asymmetric electrolytes - comparison between experiment and a novel theory — •H. Lustfeld1 and A. Pohlmeier2 — 1Forschungszentrum Jülich, IFF, 52425 Jülich — 2Forschungszentrum Jülich, ICG IV, 52425 Jülich
The electric potential and reaction rates of ions hitting the chemically active surface of microcrystals in an asymmetric electrolyte are computed analytically using a novel theory*). Comparison with this theory is made experimentally by measuring the reaction rates of Pb2+ and Cd2+ at the surface of goethite microcrystals suspended in aqueous solution of NaNO3. The measurements were taken over a wide range of temperature and pH values. The agreement between theory and experiment is very satisfactory in all cases. *)H. Lustfeld, A.
